Mykola Mykhailovych Movchan heads the department.

The main directions of educational work of the department:
- organization and holding of advanced training courses for specialists and officials of state executive bodies and local self-government on issues related to the formation of national, regional and local eco-networks, modern approaches to conservation and enrichment of biodiversity, environmental monitoring, organization and operation of NPF facilities, role and the state of forests in the ecological networks of Ukraine and the problems of their protection ";
- participation in the preparation of masters in the specialty "Ecology and Environmental Protection" (disciplines "Organization and operation of PZF", "Ecological Forestry");
- development of methodological support for the system of postgraduate education in accordance with the main directions of educational activity;
- publication of textbooks, lecture notes, textbooks, guidelines, etc .;
- organization and holding of annual scientific and practical seminars:
- "Scientific and educational role of protected arboretums of Ukraine";
- Formation of schemes of national, regional and local ecological networks (within the framework of the International Ecological Forum "Environment for Ukraine").

Areas of research activities of the department:

Research activities:
- development of scientific substantiations of perspective nature reserves, Projects of creation of territories and objects of NPF, Projects of organization of reserves, national and regional nature parks;
- development of programs and design of national, regional and local ecological networks in Ukraine, optimization of the nature reserve fund of Ukraine in the context of national and regional ecological networks;
- assessment of NPF facilities and territories for compliance with the category of natural nuclei to ensure the functioning of ecological networks;
- study of biotic and landscape diversity of green areas of urban systems as a basis for the formation of local ecological networks;

Information and educational work of the department, according to the approved work plans of the department:
- speeches in the media;
- conducting environmental education lectures for officials and specialists of local governments, employees of nature reserves, representatives of public organizations;
- participation in press conferences;
- preparation of popular science environmental publications (booklets, brochures, magazines, books);
- preparation of publications for various publications.
